Simple Ways to Relieve Foot Pain

The misery of foot pain can keep you from some of the more basic pleasures, simply because moving about is not worth the discomfort. When you have a visible source of foot pain, you can take measures to ease it. When you are dealing with the less visible sources, like fatigue and normal wear and tear after a hard day’s work, there are some things you can do for relief.

Foot Soak

There are variations of the good old fashioned foot soak that can bring you relief. You can increase blood circulation by alternating between five minute hot and cold foot soaks. One half ounce of arnica tincture can also boost circulation. Essential oils add a little special flair and comfort to your soak.

The foot soak can include this mixture of essential oils:

  • four drops of eucalyptus oil
  • four drops of rosemary oil
  • two drops of peppermint oil to the soak.

In a pinch you can use a strongly brewed cup of peppermint tea.

Foot Massage

A foot massage can be a treat, even when your feet are not aching. To treat yourself, you can use a tennis ball, rolling-pin, golf ball, or specialized roller for the bottoms of your feet. Mix your own magic massage oil with:

  • three tablespoons sesame oil
  • three drops clove oil

or

  • two tablespoons olive oil
  • three drops lavender oil
  • one drop chamomile oil
  • one drop geranium oil

Orthotics

Orthotics/inserts from your podiatrist or medical supply store can provide much-needed arch support for those who need it.

Exercise

Picking pencils up from the floor with your toes, as well as a mini resistance workout that involves spreading out rubber band wrapped toes, can relieve discomfort after a long day on your feet.

Stretch

Heel pain, like that of plantar fasciitis, can be eased with an exercise that stretches the Achilles tendon. Stand three feet from a wall, and without lifting your heel from the floor, bend your knee toward the wall.

Proactive Measures

Avoid calluses with a lotion containing urea and by giving them a soak followed by lotion one time a week. Make sure you have well-fitting shoes, with just enough room for freedom but not sloppiness.

Simple steps, some that are actually pampering treats, can go a long way in keeping you from suffering from foot pain and allow you to remain active.  In the event that you encounter pain from other foot issues, such as toenail fungus, then it’s recommended to contact specialists like Clear Toes Clinic, who can provide laser treatment for toenail fungus.
