Nail Polish May Lead To Toenail Fungus

Nail PolishBefore you apply the next coat of nail polish to your toes, take precaution. Some nail polish has been known to deteriorate a toenail and, although all nail polishes should not be thrown into the same boat , the threat of toenail fungus is still a possibility.

Unhealthy Nail Polish Chemicals

The simple truth is that the majority of nail polishes are composed of harmful chemicals which include TolueneDibutyl phthalate (DBP) and even Formaldehyde (yes, that Formaldehyde). Here’s the kicker: the key chemical agent found in the majority of nail polish removers is Acetone.

All of these are potentially very damaging to the toenail and may result in white streaking that many women experience when removing their polish. Damage such as this leaves the nail vulnerable to the contraction of many toenail ailments, including toenail fungus. The true irony is that the nail polish that was meant to beautify the nail may end up causing the exact opposite effect after years of use.

Fortunately, toenail fungus can be removed fully, just like toenail polish.  Technological advances in laser treatment means toenail fungus can be eradicated with a simple procedure.

Healthier Alternatives

Education and a little research are the best measures (as is with most things). There are many healthier alternatives on the market that serve in achieving the desired look to one’s nail without the assumed risk. We all know that the chances of women abandoning nail polish all together may be a slim one. But, there is certainly no need to “suffer for fashion”.
