If you’re trying to hide toenail fungus, it’s probably not in your best interest to do so. Why? Covering up the problem only allows it to get worse.
However, in the event you feel as though a ‘cover up’ is something you need to do, here are a few suggestions.
It’s important to remember that once the fungus is killed off, by whichever method you choose, your affected nail or nails need to grow out completely before they appear clear and healthy again.
Wear Closed-Toe Shoes
By far the most common way to hide toenail fungus is to wear closed-toe shoes. Footwear constructed out of leather or mesh are recommended. These materials are quite ‘breathable’, so your feet stay cooler.
For best results, choose a shoe style with a box-shape toe. This gives your toes more room to move around, which helps to prevent the probability of sweating. Sweating only exacerbates the problem.
Get a Pedicure
Another way to cover up signs of a fungal nail infection is to get a pedicure. You have the option of going to a salon or doing it yourself.
Nail polish does a wonderful job of hiding toenail fungus. But, the downside to this method is the fact that the polish actually traps fungal spores in between your nail and the polish. This results in the possibility of spreading the infection.
If you choose to go this route, but don’t normally wear nail polish, consider opting for a neutral or clear tone. Natural colors are less noticeable than brightly colored polish. For obvious reasons, clear polish is also suggested for men who are dealing with fungal nail infection.
Wear Socks
Many people enjoy going barefoot, in the comfort of their home. If you fall in this category, but want to hide the fungus on your toes, consider wearing socks instead of shoes. You’ll find this to be a more comfortable alternative.
Cotton socks are a excellent choice. They allow your feet to breathe and stay cool. You aren’t just limited to wearing, boring, white socks either. Jazz up your wardrobe, by purchasing a few colorful or patterned pairs to match your personality.
It is strongly recommended that you avoid wearing artificial nails to hide toenail fungus. Moisture easily gets trapped between your nail and the artificial one. All this does is encourage the fungi to grow, probably at a faster rate.
