Unfortunately, a nail fungus treatment regimen is sometimes necessary after you get a pedicure. Public places such as your favorite spa or nail salon are often breeding grounds of infection, no matter how often someone cleans them.
There’s no way around it, toenail fungus is contagious. It thrives in moist places and spreads easiest in locations where people are constantly coming and going.
If you’re worried about a fungal nail infection hitching a ride home on your beautiful feet, there are several ways to take precautions to prevent this from happening. Please consider the following tips.
Take Your Own Grooming Supplies
Never be afraid to take your own grooming supplies to your pedicure appointment. Many people make a habit of doing this, as a precautionary measure. Although it’s true that spa employees and other beauty personnel must clean and sterilize their tools, you really have no way of being sure they’re doing it correctly.
In an effort to save time, some beauticians simply dip their grooming tools in a sterile solution. Unfortunately, this is unacceptable. Tools must be properly sterilized, using an autoclave, to be safe.
Make a Morning Appointment to Prevent Nail Fungus Treatment
You may not think that your appointment time has something to do with whether or not you’ll be plagued with toenail fungus. But, it’s true. If possible, make a morning appointment. Arriving early in the day means that you’ll be one of the first clients to use one of the foot baths. So, it stands to reason that it will be cleaner and infection-free.
If you can’t make an early appointment, make sure that the foot bath you’ll be using is thoroughly cleaned with bleach in between clients.
Don’t Shave Right Before Your Appointment
It might seem silly not to shave your legs, right before a pedicure session. But, if you happen to cut yourself, while shaving, you’re setting yourself up for the possibility of fungi entering the cut and causing a problem. Minuscule fungus spores fit into even the tiniest cuts.
Say No to Nail Polish
Sometimes it’s good to refuse nail polish and just opt for a basic pedicure. Constantly wearing nail polish makes it much easier for fungus to get trapped between your nail and the layer of enamel. Clear polish is no better than colored, because it contains the same ingredients.
These are just a few things to keep in mind, before you schedule your next pedicure. There’s certainly nothing wrong with having the prettiest feet possible. However, a fungal nail infection doesn’t discriminate. Everyone is at risk, especially in public places where someone with an infection goes before you.
Keep in mind that once you get toenail fungus, it’s typically hard to get rid of. It never goes away on its own and only gets worse.
You’ve probably heard the old adage “better safe than sorry.” It certainly applies here. Because, the last thing you want to do is worry about nail fungus treatment.
