Most people have experienced some form of toe pain, and there is no doubt that it’s not a pleasant experience.
Some conditions can cause significantly more pain than others. It’s difficult to really understand the complexity of a typical human foot.
It has 126 different muscles, 33 joints, nerves, ligaments and 26 bones. Most people aren’t born with foot issues. Some people develop foot pain as they begin to age.
There are numerous causes of foot pain, and a number of these issues are much more treatable than others.
Nerve Issues
As mentioned earlier, there are many nerves in a foot. In many cases, foot pain is caused by an irritated or punched nerve. A common nerve problem that originates in the foot is called tarsal tunnel syndrome. It’s a condition that causes burning or shooting pain that comes from the ankle.
The pain radiates into the sole and arch of the foot. Another common nerve problem that produces foot pain is called neuroma. This nerve condition causes pain to originate between toes. Most people who have this condition suffer pain between their fourth and third toes.
The only effective way to treat nerve problems is with specialized therapies.
Ingrown Nails
Many people suffer from a condition known as an ingrown toenail. When this condition is present, a toenail grows into the edge of the skin. In most cases, the condition affects the edge of the big toe.
Ingrown toenails are frequently caused by pressure from shoes. For example, a pair of shoes that don’t fit can cause this condition. Even if an ingrown toenail isn’t severe, it can still cause significant pain.
If the skin that is adjacent to a toenail is swollen or red, these are signs of an ingrown toenail. Some cases are significantly more painful than others. Depending on the severity, an ingrown toenail may or may not be treated by a doctor.
Bunion
Another cause of toe pain is a bunion. This condition can be described as a bump on the side of the foot. It usually originates below the joint of the big toe. It’s almost always caused by a shifting big toe.
Over time, the big toe can shift out of the position that it needs to be in. As a result of this position change, the big toe begins to press against the toe next to it. This places too much stress on the joint of the big toe and causes a bunion to form.
The pain from a bunion can flare up at any time and might be accompanied by a pocket of fluid. Many people end up with a bunion on their pinkie toe. There are several home remedies that can be used for bunion pain, or professional treatment can be sought.
Toenail Fungus
Another cause of toenail pain is toenail fungus. There are many environments where this fungus lives, and it’s fairly easy to end up with the fungus.
While it doesn’t present any serious health risks, toenail fungus can cause a lot of pain. It can significantly reduce a person’s confidence.
Currently, the best way to get rid of toenail fungus is with our laser treatment, which quickly kills the fungus. Although tens of thousands of individuals have toenail fungus, not everyone has pain.
Fortunately, with laser treatment, this condition is easily treatable. The treatment is affordable and in most cases, only a couple of treatments are required to cure the condition.
